Despite not posting for some time, I have been busy with my crochet projects. This one I completed during summer and was inspired in the Taylor Swift Crochet Dress. It’s not a dress but a TOP done with granny stiches and alternating with 2 colors black and white!
This is a beginner’s project as it consists of two rectangles that you sow together in the middle leaving space for your head, and on the sides leaving space for your arms, and has only one type of stich which is the double crochet
My inspiration came from the Taylor Swift crochet Dress

And from this inspiration I created this:

Being for summer/spring I used cotton yarn and inspired myself with these YouTube videos, as I did not want the collar to be round as I prefer it to be V-Shaped and went from there to search the internet for the how to do this.
As such I came across these videos which despite not using the granny stitch i use had the design I wanted for my TOP.
My Summer TOP is done in 2 rectangular panels with granny stich.
When searching the internet, to find videos and instructions on how to execute the Granny stitch I did discover that the beginning of my granny stich is not what is normally used as such this is my version of the granny stitch:

Below explanation of my version of the Granny Stitch :
Photo 1. - Chain any number of multiples of 4
Photos 2.1 & 2.2 - 1st Row Double Crochet
Photos 3.1 & 3.2 - 2nd Row - Chain 3, Double Crochet in the next two chains, Chain one, skip one, ***Double crochet in the next 3 chains, chain one skip one, Double crochet in the next 3 chains ***
Photo 4 - 3rd Row - Chain 3 , 2Double Crochets in the space of the previous row, chain one, *** 3 Double Crochet in the space below, chain one 3 Double crochet in the next space*** - Repeat until the end of the row
If you want you can check these sites and videos to learn how the Granny Stich is normally done, but if so please refer to my TIP below for finishing the collar of the TOP How to Crochet the Granny Stripe Stitch - Sarah Maker, Granny Stitch Crochet - My Crochet Space, Bing Vídeos
How to begin!
Back Panel
200 chains (or any multiples of 4)
1st Row – Double Crochet
2nd Row – Chain 3, Skip one, *** 1 Double Crochet in the next 3 chains, Chain one and skip 1, **** repeat until the end of the row.
3rd Row – Chain 4 *** In the space in between the 3 Double crochets on the previous row do 3 double crochets, chain one and in the space in between the 3 Double crochets on the previous row do 3 double crochets **** repeat until the end of the row.
4th Row – Change Color and repeat Row 3
5th Row – Repeat Row 3
6th Row – Change Color and repeat Row 3
7th Row - Repeat Row 3
Until the end every 2 Rows you change color and repeat Row 3
You must measure from the middle of your chest until your shoulder ends to determine the number of Rows you need depending on your stitch. In my case for the back Panel, I needed 26 Rows in total alternating between black and white colors every 2 rows. This measurement must be used for the front panel as well.
Front Panel
200 chains (or any multiples of 4)
1st Row – Double Crochet
2nd Row – Chain 4, Skip one, *** 1 Double Crochet in the next 3 chains, Chain one and skip 1, **** repeat until the end of the row.
When both panels are finished you must fold them in half, side by side and then stitch the middle leaving a space for your head, and along the sides leaving space for your arms as per below indicated by the arrows:

When all sides are stitched (middle and sides) I did a finishing at the bottom that consists of 4 Rows of double crochets all around the project, as simple as that (also indiacated by an arrow)!
Project Checklist
· Yarn – 1,5/2 100grs of 100% Cotton Crochet Thread yarn or Lace yarn in Black
1,5/2 100grs of 100% Cotton Crochet Thread yarn or Lace yarn in White
· Hook : 4,0 mm
· The only stiches you must know to start this project are:
o Slip Knot
o Chain
o Double Crochet
TIPS: I do believe that because I start my rectangles with a double crochet when sowing both panels the sides with the beginning of the rectangles (double crochet) must be used to create the V Shaped collar as this will create a structured collar and there will be no need to execute any finishing in this area only at the bottom, whereas if you use the granny stich starting with a single chain you may need to do a double crochet all around the collar to give it structure.
Inspirations:
As always I must say I am not a designer and thus obtain assistance from youtube when creating my own projects this time I was inspired to create a TOP using the Taylor Swift Crochet Dress for inspiration.
And since the model of the Top I wanted was V Shaped I also inspired myself with Wapta Falls Crochet Pullover: Easy Crochet Granny Stitch Pullover Pattern and Cómo hacer una prenda con 1 RECTÁNGULO 😱 FACIL, rápido y sin complicaciones. Blusa Bianca #crochet and La Blusa MÁS FACIL que vas a tejer/ crochet paso a paso
Stiches:
Here you can see videos and sites where you can learn the granny stich although I have my own version at least at the beginning, which I have tried to show you above! How to Crochet the Granny Stripe Stitch - Sarah Maker, Granny Stitch Crochet - My Crochet Space, Bing Vídeos
I never tire of thanking all whom have helped turn my visons into reality by teaching the necessary steps to get there and inspiring me!
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, not being an expert, my help will only go so far! Hope you enjoy this project.
