Very simple and straightforward Crochet Poncho

Ideal to train your stiches!

My first ever crochet project was a Poncho, highly recommend for a first-time project as it is simple and allows you to train your stiches! You are supposed to crochet 2 rectangles and I do believe that despite not having to perfect rectangles, it turned out quite well.

Of course, this poncho was done with the aid of a video tutorial from Bianca Schultz which you can find here PONCHO MEIA ESTAÇÃO | CROCHÊ (youtube.com). Since it is one of the few crochet's projects, I did finish below is a peak of the finished poncho, it has now 4 years and I do use quite often in winter. As to the yarn since I was a beginner the same is from the equivalent to a dollar store, 100% Acrylic and I used the crochet hook of 4mm. I was so excited of the outcome that many Christmases presents that year were crochet ponchos.

Hope you have fun with this poncho!

THIS WAS MY INSPIRATION:

And this is what I managed:

As you can see it is a bit rough around the edges but the following projects were much better, unfortunalty I have no photos.

Project Checklist

  • Yarn - 3/4 yarn cakes - as mentioned mine were very cheap

  • Hook : 4 mm

  • The only stiches you must know to start this project are:

  • Slip Knot

  • Chain

  • Double crochet.

For help on these stiches you can search online but please feel free to visit my Pintrest here: Pinterest Life Inspiria.

TIPS: As I was a beginner at the time of this project and instead of starting on the smaller part of the rectangles I started on the biggest side! I hate to count stiches, so my poncho measured 80 cm by 50 cm, it is quite large. On my pintrest (Lifeinspiria) you can find pins that advise on size of poncho so that you do not have to count stiches but simply measure them in my opinion stiches do vary from person to person due to the stiches tension and thus find dealing with measurements much easier.

As mentioned, I am not a crochet designer and so always turn to video tutorials of other people, to help me this time it was Bianca Schultz [Poncho Meia Estação | Crochê - Bianca Schultz] whom helped with her amazing tutorial and Nordic Hook [Stitches - Nordic Hook] whom has an amazing library of crochet stiches tutorials.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, not being an expert my help will only go so far!

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Not having anyone to teach me I had the assistance of the internet, more specifically Youtube Tutorials. I have come to discover that with the videos the language barrier can be overcome as you can crochet at the same time as you see in the video.

Let the posts
come to you.
